Founded in 1968 by Calvin Klein and his business partner Barry Schwartz, Calvin Klein is a global lifestyle brand that prides itself on its bold designs, progressive ideals and minimalistic aesthetic. In 1973, Calvin Klein received his first Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award and then won the award again in 1974 and 1975. By 1997, annual revenues had increased and the licence for scarves, shoes and sunglasses was acquired.
After the company signed licences for cosmetics, jeans and menswear, their success grew even more! Over the next few years, the brand built a reputation as a fashion leader and became one of the most influential names in the industry.
Although the company almost faced bankruptcy in 1992, Calvin Klein managed to regain and increase the profitability of his empire throughout the later 1990s, mainly through the success of its popular underwear and fragrance lines. In 1997, Calvin Klein teamed up with the Swatch Group to form cK Watch and for the first time, watches were transformed into true fashion accessories.
However, in 2014 the brand was changed from cK watches to Calvin Klein Watches and all of the new models released that year had the ‘Calvin Kelin’ logo on the dial, rather than the CK logo. This is how we continue to distinguish Calvin Klein watches to this day.
